> Define research interest more specifically
> Brainstorm & Mindmap ideas

After presenting my research topic slides to Andreas, it was clear that I had two main pillars: food and interaction. Andreas mentioned how I could work on building these pillars: food and interaction. As my focus was on eating spaces; this meant exploring Interaction design - how we interact with things, any kind of space exploration.

With the topic of food wastage on my mind, I hoped to create experiments regarding weight sensors to perhaps quantify food wastage data through a sensor detecting weight. I also planned to focus locally on Singapore, looking at food readings - hawker centres, and newspapers. This sparked Andreas to recall a location at orchard central with robots that make coffee, order and record the robot with their phone;- Andreas, doesn’t find it interesting as he felt that such technologies even QR codes and screen order; similar to the examples of screen ordering in my slides seemed excessive and inconvenient to the eating experience.

Cultural Tropes

After the presentation, Matin mentioned how there’s a possibility I could look into different eating cultures and tropes; eg. saying people's say when they don’t eat their food. This got me thinking about to what extent can education play in effectiveness in preventing food waste?

Matin sent me a link about installations local and overseas about eating habits which were very insightful in discussing ways to take the first step and create discussions about food.

Andreas also mentioned how I could look into food education as such food cultures seem to be cultivated in children from a young age. He also referenced Lim Zherng’s satirical piece on eating habits.
